Summer 2024

Theme: Canvas Implementation and Initial Enhancements

  • Canvas Launch
    • Completed the full launch of Canvas LMS for all catalog courses.
    • Ongoing work includes post-launch support, additional migrations, and faculty training as needed.
    • Future integrations with new tools and third-party services as identified.
  • UD Attendance Tool - Phase 1
    • Initial release with core features: create, edit, and delete attendance items, bulk update, attendance statistics, student viewing capabilities, and notes features.
  • Digital Drop-Off Tool
    • Launched for the Write Place to support online writing consultations.
    • Integrated with Box for seamless document handling, allowing consultants to use Box annotations for feedback.
  • COL Help Docs
    • Published initial technical documentation and best practices for users of custom learning apps and third-party tools integrated into Canvas.
    • Documentation includes:
      • UD Attendance: Overview of the new attendance tool in Canvas.
      • Learning Apps: Tools developed by the Center for Online Learning to enhance student learning experiences.
      • External Apps: Information on LTI-compliant tools integrated into Canvas.
      • Gradescope: Guide for using this assessment and grading tool.
      • Snagit: Overview of screen recording software available to faculty.
      • Turnitin: Summary of services included in the University's Turnitin license.
      • Warpwire: Instructions for using the secure video storage and sharing platform.
      • Zoom: Guide on using the University's synchronous online meeting tool.
  • Canvas Service
    • Deployed Symfony app for secure and scoped access to the Canvas API, supporting custom tools and data transformation needs.
  • Computed Groups
    • Workflow and process established for UDit-managed groups, with automated syncing of group changes to Canvas sections.

Fall 2024

Theme: Enhancing Academic Tools and Data Integration

  • Grades to Banner
    • Launch before midterm grading.
    • Instructors can submit grades directly from Canvas to Banner after reviewing course grades.
  • UD Attendance Tool - Phase 2
    • New features: grading integration with Canvas, student self-check-in options, status configuration, course schedule integration, student photos, and advanced filtering.
  • Learning Apps Improvements
    • Upgrades and new features for COL-developed learning apps to enhance functionality within Canvas.
    • Ongoing improvements to continue into Spring 2025.
  • Attendance Data to SSN
    • Initial planning begins in Fall 2024, with full implementation scheduled for Spring 2025.
    • Integration will allow attendance data from the UD Attendance Tool to populate the Student Success Network (SSN) modules.
  • Ongoing Canvas Support
    • Continuous improvements, integrations, and support activities post-launch.

Spring 2025

Theme: Data and Infrastructure Advancements

  • Canvas Data 2 Implementation

    • Integration of Canvas Data 2 with UD’s data lake.
    • Supports enhanced learning analytics and dashboard development.

  • LEARN Administration

    • Enhancements to the LEARN platform, focusing on managing professional development sessions, registration, and calendar integration.

  • Docker Tsugi Migration

    • Summary: A phased migration of the Tsugi platform to a containerized environment using Docker, aimed at achieving continuous deployment, easier maintenance, and scalability.
    • Phase 1: Initial hosting of Tsugi platform in a containerized environment for the development environment.
    • Phase 2: Testing and deployment in QA environment.
    • Phase 3: Full production deployment, including maintenance and scaling plans.
  • Attendance Data to SSN
    • Full implementation of attendance data integration into the Student Success Network.
  • Learning Apps Improvements
    • Continued enhancements and new features for learning apps to ensure they meet evolving instructor needs.

Academic Calendar Milestones

  • Fall Start (August 2024): Canvas and Attendance Tool enhancements ready for course start.
  • Fall Midterms (October 2024): Grades to Banner functionality available for instructors.
  • Fall Finals (December 2024): UD Attendance Tool - Phase 2 completed.
  • Spring Start (January 2025): Data integration projects underway.
  • Spring Midterms (March 2025): Initial Docker Tsugi environment deployment.
  • Spring Finals (May 2025): Canvas Data 2 and LEARN Data integration in place.
