Write Place Consultant DDO Instructions

Students seeking writing support may submit papers on Canvas to the Write Place's Digital Drop-Off service where they will be reviewed electronically by Write Place consultants.

Guidelines

Spend 30 minutes reviewing a submission. The Write Place is not an editing service; rather, your feedback should include comments about the paper’s content, organization, and mechanics.

How To Review a Submission

  1. Click Awaiting Review to see all student submissions that still need to be reviewed.
  2. Look for submissions that have a green dot in the Status column; these are ones that have not been reviewed and are not yet being reviewed.
    • CAUTION: If you have spent more than several minutes on the Awaiting Review page, make sure to click the Refresh button before starting a review to update the page.
  3. Click the → Review button on the submission you want to review.
  4. Review the submission:
    • Step 1: Review Submission Details
      • The top of the page includes the details of the student's submission. Before reviewing the submitted document, familiarize yourself with the information, paying particular attention to any assignment instructions and the student's concerns and/or areas of focus.
    • Step 2: Read and Annotate Submitted Document
      • From the Review Submission page, click Read and Annotate Document; the student's file will then open in Box.
        • DDO uses Box, one of UD's cloud file storage solution, to handle file uploads and to allow Write Place staff to view and, in many cases, annotate students' work. Box has documentation listing what uploaded file types may be annotated:
Document and Image Files You Can Annotate
      • Add your annotations and comments.
        • Within Box, you may add annotations in either Drawing Mode or Point Mode. Drawing Mode allows you to draw freeform over the document, and Point mode allows you to create text comments attached to a point you can place anywhere in the visible portions of the document. Each mode can be activated with its dedicated button in the upper-right corner of Box's frame within the page. For more information on how annotation works in general, you may also consult Box's documentation:
          Annotating Documents
    • Step 3: Complete Review and Provide Overall Feedback
      • Click the Complete Review button at the bottom of the form to finish reviewing.
      • Provide any additional feedback to the student before clicking Finish. If the student's file was not of a type that can be annotated, you can add your feedback at this time.
  5. You will see that the submission has moved from the Awaiting Review section to the Completed Reviews section, which indicates that review has been completed.
