Set up Tokens

To set up the Tokens learning app:

1. Navigate to the Tokens app in your Canvas course.
2. The Instructor Settings page will load (if this is the first time you've launched the app).
3. Enter the total amount of tokens you would like to be available to students for the current term.
4. Specify a date the tokens must be used by. The tokens will become unavailable to students at 11:59 pm on that date.

5. Select whether you want to receive email notifications when students use tokens.

   • (Optional) Enter a note for students to see when they choose to use their tokens. This may be a reminder about how to use tokens or a statement of your tokens policy.

6. By default, there are two categories available for students to spend tokens on: Missed Class and Late Assignment. If you would like, you can edit the name of these categories or adjust their token cost.

   • Categories can be removed by clicking on the X (delete) icon to the right of the category entry.
   • You may use the + NEW CATEGORY button to add additional categories.
   • Categories can be reordered by clicking on the up or down arrows to the left of them.

7. Enter a token cost for each category. (The token cost is the amount of tokens students must spend to obtain a particular leniency in the course).

8. Once your token economy is setup as you would like, click on the Save button to make the tokens active.
