Adjust Threaded Discussion SettingsΒΆ
To adjust settings for a threaded discussion:
- Navigate to the Threaded Discussion tool link in your Canvas site.
- Click on Settings.
-
Adjust the available settings:
- Discussion title override - display a custom title for the discussion (instead of "Threaded Discussion")
- Give a 100% grade for a student making a post or a comment - gives students a 100% grade if they make a thread or comment. NOTE: Grading should be enabled when the Threaded Discussion learning app is installed, as it can't be enabled after the fact. Currently, students will only receive points when they reply to a thread, not for creating a new thread. Read the section "How to Add a Learning App as an Assignment" in the Learning Apps installation page for proper installation instructions.
- Put comment box before comments in thread display - puts an empty comment box on the top of the threads page (instead of the bottom)
- Allowed depth of nested comments - adjusts how many levels of nested replies there can be (default is 2)
- Due date - set a due date for threads and replies
- Time zone - set your timezone
- Penalty time period - penalty deduction is calculated by each time period that passes (in seconds, specified by the instructor)
- Penalty deduction - percentage of points deducted per penalty time period (specified by the instructor)
-
Click on Save changes.
