Set Up the Shoutouts! App¶

To configure the Shoutouts! app:

Navigate to the Shoutouts! app in your Canvas course.
If this is your first time visiting the app, the Instructor Settings page will open automatically. If you don't see the Instructor Settings page, click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand portion of the landing page.
Enable or disable the settings listed below to set up shoutouts for students:
- Recipient View Enabled: allows students to see which shoutouts they've received.
- Display Leaderboard: allows students to see the top 5 shoutout recipients. Student names are visible by default. If you enable the Anonymous to Students setting (see below), then student names will be hidden, and the leaderboard will display an Anonymous Ranking column instead.
- Enable Moderation: allows instructors to approve or reject shoutouts before they're available to students.
- Anonymous to Students: hides from shoutout recipients the name of the person who sent them the shoutout.
- Require Comments: requires students to enter a comment before sending a shoutout to someone.
- Email notifications for <Your Name>: allows instructors to receive email notifications when students send shoutouts.
- (Optional) Value of sending a Shoutout: allows instructors to assign points to students when they send a shoutout. Students' accumulated points will be visible to instructors but will not be sent to the Canvas Gradebook.
- (Optional) Value of receiving a Shoutout: allows instructors to assign points to students when they receive a shoutout. Students' accumulated points will be visible to instructors but will not be sent to the Canvas Gradebook.
- Potential Shoutouts: Click on individual shoutouts to enable or disable them for student use.
Once you have configured these settings, click on the Save button.
- You may return to the Instructor Settings page at any time to make changes.
Shoutouts! is now ready for your students to use.
