Add/Edit/Delete an Emoji Rating Scale

To install the Emoji Ratings app in your course, please see our instructions on installing learning apps in Canvas.

Adding an emoji rating scale

To add an emoji rating scale:

  1. Click on the Emoji Ratings app where you have installed it in your Canvas course.
  2. Click on the Get Started button.
  3. Select the Use This Scale button next to the scale you want to use.
    • The Feeling scale can be used to measure student sentiment about an issue or class-related experience.
    • The Confidence scale can be used to measure how comfortable students feel with course material.
  4. Type the prompt you'd like students to respond to in the Prompt text box.
  5. Click on the Save button.

Editing an emoji rating scale

To edit an emoji rating scale:

  1. Click on the Emoji Ratings app where you have installed it in your Canvas course.
  2. Click on the Edit button at the top right of the screen.
  3. Select the Use This Scale button next to the scale you are using or want to use.
  4. Edit the prompt you'd like students to respond to.
  5. Click on the Save button.

Deleting an emoji rating scale

To delete an emoji rating scale:

  1. Navigate to where the Emoji Ratings app is installed in your Canvas course.
  2. If the item has been added to a course module, click on the kabob (three-dot) icon all the way to the right of the module item, and select Delete from the menu that appears.
  3. If the item is in a course page or another location that uses Canvas's Rich Content Editor, navigate to the page, click the Edit button, and scroll through the content until you find the link to the Emoji Ratings app. Delete the link, and click on the Save button.
